The Extension Division, currently Academic Outreach and Continuing Education, was formed at the University of Utah to provide courses for individuals unable to attend regular classes on campus. This collection contains course material, class schedules, bulletins, publicity and promotional material, and information on lectures, art exhibits, film presentations, and live performances, which were sponsored by the Extension Division.

Correspondence and extension courses were officially begun at the University of Utah in 1893 in order to provide courses for individuals unable to attend regular classes on campus. A Department of Extension Work was formed at the University of Utah in 1911 and in 1916 was reorganized into a distinct school at the University called the "Extension Division."
